Good News Club

Every week members from Powdersville Frist Baptist Church lead a children's ministry called Good News Club at Powdersville Elementary School.

Separated by grades for their small groups, students talk with leaders about scripture passages and hand in prayer requests they may have.

In a large group, leaders ask the students questions to review previous lessons.

The students hear a weekly Bible story. Today, a shepherd's staff was used to illustrate how Elisha asked Gehazi to touch a dying boy's head the staff, as was told from 2 Kings 4.

A "Wonder Book" is given to each student to take home as their very own devotional. They are asked every week what they learned from the previous week.

Anointing

On November 9, 2008, a special moment during the service was reserved for anointing a man from Powdersville First Baptist Church. The anoinment was to prayer over him as he presently deals with some major health issues. It was determined that he has pneumonia in his left lung which resulted in the doctors finding a cancerous mass surrounding his bronchial tubes in the same lung. He will be having some tests done this week to determine what the next step is in the process. Surgery is an option, but he has a weak heart which has been in such a condition for over 40 years. On top of that, he has liver and kidney problems and is diabetic.

With all of this going on, the pastor set aside a time to anoint and lay hands on him in prayer. Ordained men of the church formed a line to pray over him individually, and then the congregation joined hands and prayed as a whole.

Passover Traditions

The Young Ladies Class at Powdersville First Baptist started a series on studying Jewish traditions that are relative to Old Testament scriptures. This week we engaged in the rituals of the Feasts of Unleavened Bread, the Passover, which are still carried out today by Jewish believers. (SIDE NOTE: The 'wine' was cranberry juice.)

Ms. Marian's Birthday

This afternoon friends and family gathered to celebrate the 90th birthday of Ms. Marian, a lady from Powdersville First Baptist Church.

Her family helped her open the presents she was given.

Many laughs filled the room.

Two cakes were made, one vanilla and the other chocolate.

And she blew out the candles of both cakes.

The entire time she had a smile on her face and cracked many jokes.

Before the real fun began, though, we all listened to a list of interesting facts that have occurred from 1918 until now.

Easley Football Game

Friday night Easley High School played their last regular season home game against Wren High School. The Easley Greenwaves fought hard against the Wren Hurricanes, but were not able to come out on top. The final score was 12-21.

Coaches and players touch this rock before every home game and upon returning to the field for the second half. The rock is in memory of a long-time teacher at Easley High School who died last year. He had taught at the high school for 30-years.

More players touch the memorial rock.

Drummers lead the marching band from the field to the stands.

Band members march in line as they enter the stands.

Even future Greenwave band members march into the stands.

Easley High School Greenwave players run through the stands onto the field.

Greenwave players get pumped up before entering the field.

Students participate in a pre-game ritual song.

Band members participate as well.

Excitement stirs up as the Greenwaves see what looks like a touchdown. However, the referees ruled it as incomplete.

A few players get advice from one of the coaches.

The head coach gives his players a peptalk on the bench during a time-out.

A Greenwave wide receiver tries prevent a touchdown for the Wren Hurricanes.

A couple Greenwave players talk on the sidelines.

An incomplete pass is made on the Greenwaves.

But shortly after, they make a touchdown in the second quarter.

The stands are filled with students, parents, and alumni despite the rain.
