Today more than three generations on my grandmother’s side gathered for a family reunion. There were many people there, more than enough food, live entertainment, and lots of reconnecting.
The event was planned by John Marshall Daniel, one of my grandmother’s cousins, and hosted it on his property which is over 200 acres. He lives on what was the old family farm, and has cleaned it up since then.
Several families provided old photographs of previous and current generations. And stories were told from the “old days.”
For entertainment, Daniel set up a flat trailer as a stage, and his family provided live music. They played a keyboard, electric guitar, steel guitar, and percussion. And every now and then a song or two would be sung.
On the long line of food tables were many choices to make: ham, fried chicken, roast, macaroni, different types of salads, beans, rolls, sweet potato, and more, as well as a wide variety of desserts.
As we left, the sun was setting and created a beautiful sight next to the house and many hills of the farm.
